Promotion & Relegation Situation
Congratulations to Nuneaton on their promotion
which is now secure. Halifax and Darlington Mowden Park go down. Also
congratulations to our newcomers from North
1 and Midlands 1, Westoe and Broadstreet are promoted as champions with our
neighbours Hull beating Chester 40-15 in the play-off for the third spot.
Waterloo are relegated from the current National 2 and one would expect Rugby
Lions to come back in on the level transfer regulation to make the new National
2 North, as it will be known, up to 16 teams, but this decision is yet to be
announced.

Promotion &
Relegation at the end of this season.
The RFU
council have now approved the league structure for 2009/10 renaming Level 2
- National 1 as the Guinness Championship, reduced from 16 to 12 teams.
Level 3 - National 2, becomes National 1 increased from 14 to 16 teams.
Level 4 - National 3 N & S, become National 2 N & S increased from 14 to
16 teams.
Level 5 will become 4 National 3 Regional teams.
To accommodate this at the end of this season in the current National 3 North
& South just 1 team will be promoted from each league and just 2 teams
demoted. There will be no second placed play off. Two teams will be coming down
to our league from above and the current North 1 & Midlands 1 that feed us
from below will have the 2 league champions promoted and a second placed play
off bringing 3 teams up in total. There will be no general National Cup or
Trophy matches at level 3,4 & 5.
