Morley 20 Hull Ionians 13

Ionians: Try: Kench (73). Con: Birch. Pens: Quinn 2 (12, 37).    

Morley picked up a valuable home win over Hull Ionians as they battle to get out of the relegation zone, the win leaves them two points behind Macclesfield and six points behind West Park and Bradford & Bingley and safety.

Morley were ahead on two minutes when scrum half Mark Chester went over for a try and fly half Dave Evans converted for 7-0. It was 12-0 soon after as winger John Hampsey went over for his 15th try of the season.

Ionians were on the scoreboard on 12 minutes when Chris Quinn put over a penalty goal and added a second on 37 minutes to make it 12-6. Before the half time whistle Hampsey got his 16th try of the season and sent the home side in 17-6 ahead.

Before the hour mark Evans put over a penalty goal to make it a 14 point lead for Morley.

On 73 minutes the visitors were in for a try as flanker Rob Kench touched down and Karl Birch added the extras.    

 

Preston Grasshoppers 13 Darlington MP 30

DMP: Tries: J Clark (2), C Clark (27), Kerr (41), Riddell (52).  Con: Benson. Pen: Snook (38).   

Darlington Mowden Park took all five points at Lightfoot Green and close to within three of second placed Leicester Lions and the play off place.

Comprehensive win for Darlington MP as they run in five tries after a closely fought first half. The visitors were ahead on two minutes when centre James Clark went over the Hopers line for a 5-0 lead. Winger Russell Flynn replied for the home side with a penalty goal before winger Chris Clark went over for a second DMP try and this time Jon Benson converted for 12-3.

Hoppers responded with a try form centre Cameron Berry and Flynn converted before giving the home side the lead with a 36th minute penalty goal. But two minutes later DMP were backing front as Ben Snook put over a penalty goal to lead 15-13 at half time.

In the second half all the scoring came form the visitors as winger Gareth Kerr, flanker Scott Riddell and winger Chris Clark completed a double on 63 minutes for the final score of the match.   

 

Leicester Lions 16 Harrogate 21

Lions: Try: Logan (69). Con: Boden. Pens: Boden 3 (4, 23, 46).        

Gate: Tries: Peachey 2 (30, 51), Boyle (63). Pens: Wainwright 2 (18, 55)   

Harrogate pick up an excellent away win at Leicester Lions who see Darlington Mowden Park close to within three points of them in the battle for second place.

Jon Boden gave the home side the lead with a 4th minute penalty goal but Nick Wainwright replied for the visitors to tie the scores. Boden made it 6-3 on 23 minutes but it was Harrogate who went in at the break ahead after flanker Ryan Peachey went over for the games opening try and made it 8-6 at half time.

Boden gave the home side the lead again on 46 minutes with a 3rd penalty goal.  Peachey went over to complete a double on 51 minutes but again the conversion was missed. Wainwright did though put over a penalty goal to make it 16-9 after 55 minutes.

Just after the hour mark No 8 Andrew Boyle went over for the third Harrogate try and a 21-9 lead.

The Lions finally made it over the visitors try line when winger Will Logan went over and Boden converted to claim a losing bonus point.    

 

Macclesfield 13 Tynedale 19  

Macc: Tries: Mulchrone (5), Hewitt (58). Pen: Winney (67).        

Dale: Tries: Vickers (9, 20), Southern (33). Cons: Belgian 2.   

Leader Tynedale were given a tough match by Macclesfield but came through for the win and they extended their lead in the league table to 25 points. Macclesfield took a losing bonus point and are four points behind West Park St Helens and Bradford & Bingley.

The home side took the lead on five minutes when full back Fergus Mulchrone went over for a try and a 5-0 lead. Four minutes later and Tynedale were ahead after hooker Rob Vickers touched don and captain and centre Phil Belgian converted. Vickers completed a double on 20 minutes and again Belgian converted for 14-5.  

Just after the half hour mark it was 19-5 as the visitors got a third try as prop Peter Southern went over the home line.

In the second half Macc No 8 Geary Hewitt got the first score on 58 minutes but it went unconverted. Charles Winney did add a 67th minute penalty goal to give the home side a losing bonus point which might well be vital in the final table as it hots up to avoid a bottom three place in the table.

 

West Park St Helens 18 Fylde 26

West Park: Tries: Webster (48), Williams (68). Con: Soutar. Cons: Soutar 2 (9, 40)          

Fylde: Tries: Boyd (12), Clark (17) Brennand (60), Armstrong (72). Cons: Armstrong 3.  

West Park suffer a home defeat which sees Macclesfield close to within four points of them as they look to try and avoid being dragged into the relegation battle.

West Park took the lead when Andrew Soutar put over a ninth minute penalty goal but three minutes later Fylde were in front as winger Lewis Boyd went over for a try and Jon Armstrong converted for a 7-3 lead. Five minutes later it was 12-3 as prop Darren Clark touched down but by half time Soutar had put over a second penalty goal to make it 12-6.

Eight minutes into the second half and West Park were ahead as scrum half Phil Webster went over and Soutar converted for 13-12.

On the hour mark Fylde were back in front as winger Ollie Brennand went over for his 18th try of the season and Armstrong converted for 19-18. West Park were back within a point on 68 minutes as flanker Mark Williams went over the Fylde line. On 72 minutes Fylde wrapped up the win as full back Armstrong went over and added the conversion.  

In the second half Fylde were down to 13 men for a spell with two men spending time in the bin.

 

Rugby Lions 26 Beverley 5

Lions: Tries: Riding (4), Hales (35), Prosser Shaw (31), Nash (78). Cons: Hawken 3.          

Beverley: Try: McKay (57).   

Rugby Lions take all five points as they look to battle for a play off place and with Leicester Lions losing they are six points behind them now in the table.

The Lions were ahead on four minutes when No 8 Stuart Riding went over and it was 5-0. Flanker Tristan Prosser Shaw got the second try on 31 minutes and full back James Hawken converted for 12-0. Winger Ade Hales made it 19-0 with his 12th try of the season and Hawken converted in the final score of the half.

In the second half flanker James McKay went over for the visitors on 59 minutes but late in the game the Lions wrapped up the win with a fourth try. It came from flanker Alex Nash and Hawken added the extras.   

 

Bradford & Bingley 5 Caldy 36

Bees: Try: Judson (54).         

Caldy: Tries: Wylie (2), Lyon (8), Ross (29), Bradshaw 2 (49, 62). Cons: Mason 4. Pen: Mason (34).    

Caldy are up into eight place after this away win at Wagon Lane over Bradford & Bingley who are now just four points from being involved in the relegation battle.

Caldy ran out comfortable winners in this match out scoring the home side five tries to one.

It took Caldy two minutes to cross the home line as Full back Ben Wylie went over and Simon Mason, back in the side, added the conversion. Six minutes later it was 14-0 as flanker Jake Lyon touched down and Mason again converted. It was 21-0 just before the half hour mark as winger Craig Ross went over and Mason was again on target and made it 24-0 on 34 minutes which was the half time score.

Thee try bonus point was in the bag on 49 minutes when second row Richard Bradshaw went over to make it 29-0.

Finally the home side got on the scoreboard as Ian Judson, playing in the second row this week, went over.

It was Caldy though who had the final say as Bradshaw completed a double on 62 minutes with the final score of the match.
