Hull Ionians RUFC will continue to play their league rugby in the renamed National 2 North in 2009/10 and aim to maintain their status of being the leading rugby union club in East Yorkshire. Hull Ionians were formed in 1989 by the merger of Hull and East Riding, playing in North 1, with Ionians, playing in Yorkshire 3. Hull and East Riding brought their fine history of top flight rugby to Ionians developing ground and youth structure to create a much stronger senior club that owned its ground and clubhouse. The full history goes back to at least 1875 for Hull and East Riding and 1926 for Ionians.
Their home is Brantingham Park that opened in September of 1995 and has since established itself as one of the leading venues for business and social functions in the area.
The Popularity has grown due to the friendliness, the high standards set by the team and the quality of the Club facilities.
