Hull Ionians announce an Alliance with Hull University Rugby Union Club

For the season 2009/2010 Hull University will play both
their 1st XV and 2nd XV Rugby Union games at Brantingham
Park, Elloughton, home of Hull Ionians. A number of games remaining in this
year’s fixture list will also be played at Brantingham Park but the main
emphasis will be concentrated on next season.
Hull Ionians will offer training facilities and coaches for Freshers each year
who will have the opportunity to play in University games mid week and Academy
games at the weekend enabling a smoother transition from Schools and Youth rugby
into senior rugby. University 2nd and 1st XV players will
be offered coaching at Brantingham Park as well as the opportunity to gain
places in senior sides including the 1st XV at Hull Ionians.
This alliance will offer University students the opportunity to graduate into
senior rugby at a pace related to individual talent and skills and has the full
support of all sections of the Hull Ionians Club.
The alliance was endorsed on Tuesday evening, February 10th, at a meeting at
Brantingham Park where Chairman Trevor Stephenson supported by Dave Wilson (2nd
XV Manager), Peter Gaunt and Phil Willingham (Academy Managers) welcomed the
University RUFC officials.
The first match took place at Brantingham Park on Wednesday 11th
February refereed by former Welsh International Gary Pearce, Hull University
beat Tees University 20-14 Photos.
