With a game based on mobility and repeated phase play it was a massive blow for the Hawks to lose three back row players on Friday night/Saturday morning. However, a strong if very youthful side still took the field with experienced Rich Wilson and Rich Moorhouse returning to give guidance.
The heavyweight Harrogate pack took control and dominated the first half aided by a strong following wind. Three tries, two of them converted, and a penalty rewarded the visitors superiority to give them a 22 – 0 halftime lead.
After the break I’s showed glimpses of their normal form most noticeably when Rich Moorhouse was put through a gap and stepped round the fullback to score a try near the posts, which James Cameron converted. Leg injuries to stand off James Cameron and Rich Moorhouse hampered the backs and spoiled the Hawks fight back. Harrogate then put the match beyond their reach with their fourth try. Rich Wilson forced his way over for a try that he richly deserved for leading the forwards despite dislocating a finger.
After a prolonged spell of pressure from the Hawks Harrogate broke away to score a good long range try to complete their revenge for the last minute defeat the Hawks inflicted on them at home last month. In an otherwise disappointing day one bright spot was the debut of yet another youngster in 17 year old Nathan Prosser on the wing, who looked dangerous with limited opportunities.
The Management sincerely hope all players will try to make themselves available for the last two games of the season and finish off a magnificent season well and not just let it drift away.
