Hull Ionians entertained 2 sides from Cleckheaton for pre-season trial games.
Some 60+ Hull Ionians players turned out during the afternoon. This included 1st
& 2nd XV players plus a high number of very talented Academy players.
The joint 2nd XV and Academy team put up a good show to beat Cleckheaton with a
number of well taken tries.
In the main game Cleckheaton scored the first try then spent the next 30 minutes
defending their line in admirable fashion to deny Hull Ionians running away with
the game. With 15 minutes remaining and the scores level at 17 all Tim Mennell
'barged' his way through 3 players on the half way line, rounded two more
players near the Cleckheaton 22 metre line then 'tugged' more players on his
back over the line to score a well deserved individual try. Cleckheaton then
started to crumble with the game ending 29 to 17 in favour of Hull Ionians.
Everyone then enjoyed a Hog Roast to complete a very promising pre-season event.
